From "Mom" Bertha Whyte, our Founder
I just wanted to let you all know that my thoughts and prayers are with you even though I am no longer able to travel to be with you. I recently celebrated my 97th birthday surrounded by family and friends here in Lindsay, Ontario and travel to Texas is no longer possible.
It is coming up to 18 years (1995) since the divine appointment that was the beginning of our ministry here in the valley. A family lost their trailer in a fire earlier that evening and sought shelter under our trailer from a terrible rainstorm. The noise under our trailer awoke us and we offered them shelter inside. My husband, Bert and I had no idea at that time what GOD was setting into motion.
Since that time the Lord has equipped us to reach out through our food pantry to more that 100 families twice a month. Our building is used as a church on Sundays, allowing our families to worship in Spanish. We also have used clothing and used furniture banks as inventory is available. We have also repaired and upgraded trailers and constructed several new homes for families here in the colonias.
I have passed on the mantle of leadership to my son Ron who has served on the board for the past ten years. He and his wife Bea will be resident during the winter months and available by phone and email the rest of the year. My daughter Jane and her husband Ray will be assisting them from Canada and will be onsite for some of the winter months.
I am pleased that GOD’S vision is living on and I am confident that our outreach will continue to grow. I want to thank both winter Texans and full time Texas residents for your faithful support and provision of financial resources that have contributed to our success here in the valley.
